European organic congress incorporates Italian experiences on organic food and farming

Brussels 10.05.2010 – On June 21st and 22nd the European organic sector comes together in Rome to evaluate the performance of and to discuss future possibilities for EU regulation for organic food and farming at the 4th European Organic Congress(1). The congress is coordinated by the IFOAM EU Group(2) and the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari - IAMB(3) as part of the Italian InterBio Project(4) which is coordinated by IAMB and financed by the Italian Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies

The experiences of the InterBio project are integrated in the programme of the 4th European Organic Congress. The InterBio project aims to promote organic food and farming and to facilitate knowledge sharing among operators at national Italian as well as international level. It further offers support for promotion activities for Italian organic productions on international markets as well as the exchange of information and knowledge on regulations and policies for the sector. InterBio also helps establishing relationships among associations, focusing on cooperation and development, capacity building, training activities and research and etc.        A special focus is set upon the Mediterranean area via the Mediterranean Organic Agriculture Network (MOAN), which gathers institutions in the Mediterranean and Balkan countries dealing with organic issues.

So far, participants from three continents have registered for the congress. Less than 130 seats are left and the organisers expect that full capacity will be reached within the coming weeks, so early registration is recommended.
